The Victoria Falls Solidarity Fund allows supporting the attendance at ICOMOS events of colleagues facing financial difficulties, in particular, General Assemblies. The purpose of the ICOMOS Victoria Falls/Mosi-oa-Tunya Solidarity Fund is to maximize the attendance at General Assemblies of ICOMOS so that they are genuinely representative and inclusive of the global membership of the organization. Australia ICOMOS has one of the largest and most active ICOMOS national committees, and with strong support from the Australian and NSW State Governments and the City of Sydney, we are thrilled to bring an ICOMOS General Assembly to the Pacific region for the first time.

The core General Assembly will occur between 5 and 9 October 2020 within an exciting ten-day program of site visits, workshops, lectures, expert meetings, and social gatherings. Venues will include the World Heritage-listed Sydney Opera House, Greater Blue Mountains and Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Properties amongst a wide variety of other Aboriginal and colonial cultural places. Participants will meet amidst Sydney’s vibrant Indigenous and multicultural communities.

The theme of the four day Scientific Symposium: ‘Shared Cultures – Shared Heritage – Shared Responsibility’, reflects the global context of heritage as part of cultural identity at a time of rapid population shift, conflict, and environmental uncertainty. The important notion of shared stewardship, for which the ‘culture-nature journey’ is of particular relevance, requires agreed approaches to the sustainable protection, conservation, and safeguarding of heritage.

Eligibility

  • The grants are reserved for ICOMOS members from eligible countries. To see the list click here.
  • Only members from National Committees that are up to date with their 2019 fees at the time of submitting an application to the Grants Committee will be eligible.
  • For members in countries where there is no National Committee yet, only members that are themselves up to date with their fees at the time of submitting an application to the Grants Committee will be eligible.
  • Applications received from candidates in countries of the Asia Pacific region where there is no National Committee may be considered if the candidate has also submitted an application to become an ICOMOS individual member through the International Secretariat.
  • Grants are open to all members with eligibility and not reserved for National Committee Presidents.
  • In principle, only one grant per country will be given. If a National Committee has two candidates the grant can be equally divided between the candidates in a joint decision of the National Committee and the Grants Committee.
  • Bringing an accompanying person to the event will result in an immediate determination of no financial need. Should an accompanying person be brought despite having stated

Benefits

  • Fund to support the attendance at ICOMOS event including (travel, accommodation…)

Application process

  • For the registration form click here.

Required documents

  • Personal financial need,
