The Franklin Women Carer’s Travel Scholarship

Franklin Women is a community of women working in health and medical research related careers. It aims to bring together like-minded women to create opportunities for networking, personal and professional development and career progression, both in and outside of academia.

The Franklin Women Carer’s Travel Scholarship is to assist health and medical researchers who have primary caring responsibilities by funding to costs of any additional care required while they present their research at an academic conference.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the scholarship you must:

• Be currently employed or enrolled as a Ph.D. student in health and medical research the field at a university or research institute in Australia (or on institute-approved parental leave)
• Be the primary carer of one or more children under 5 years of age or have other unpaid caring responsibilities for family members (i.e. with a disability or chronic/mental health condition or are frail elderly)
• Have a poster or oral abstract accepted for a national or international conference. You are still eligible to apply if you are waiting for notification of acceptance, however, funding will be awarded conditionally to abstract acceptance
• Have acquired funding to cover your personal conference travel and attendance costs (e.g. your conference registration, flights, accommodation, and per-diem, etc)
• Be a full or student member of Franklin Women at the time of applying
• Have not previously received a Franklin Women carer’s travel scholarship
• Be happy to contribute to a Franklin Women blog or newsletter on the conclusion of the travel

Application requirements

Your application must demonstrate your commitment to academic health and medical research career, how the scholarship will support your attendance at the proposed conference and the impact this conference would have on your career progression. If applicable, you may
want to comment on any other pre/post conference meetings that are aligned with your research/career aims.

All applications must be submitted as one single file (named in the format: Surname_2019_Travel) via email to hello@franklinwomen.com.au

Each application must include:

• completed Carer’s Travel Scholarship Application Form provided on the Franklin Women website www.franklinwomen.com.au
• Curriculum vitae (maximum 4 pages) outlining your employment history, key publication and conference track record, contributions to the field and other relevant activities (noting career disruptions where relevant)
• Letter from your Head of School/Head of Research Group in support of your application and confirming your current position
• Evidence of abstract acceptance or invitation to given a present
