Hurry Up!! Opportunity Alert, Ethical Global Engagement Grants support travel, living, and EdGE tuition expenses for exceptional candidates. The expectation is that recipients join our EdGE learning community and then volunteer or intern (online or in person) with an Omprakash Partner organization, typically for at least 3 months. Our grants target different audiences and offer varying levels of support. All share the purpose of broadening access to learning opportunities within our programs and throughout our network.

  • Students looking for internships (online or in-person) to support and broaden their studies
  • Gap Year students looking for a unique opportunity to join a program that offers support but is also flexible and self-directed, with the possibility to earn college credit.

  • EdGE Scholarships offer partial or full tuition reductions to EdGE participants.

Crowdfund Matching Grants:

  • Crowdfund Matching Grants offer up to $1500 in matching funds for EdGE students who are using the Omprakash Crowdfund platform.

Edge Travel Grants:

  • The EdGE Travel Grant defrays travel and living expenses for volunteers or interns who are planning to spend an extended period of time (generally 3+ months) with an Omprakash Partner. There is no restriction on volunteer age. Typical grant amounts range from $500 to $1500. While some grants cover full expenses, most will not. Grant recipients are often expected to ‘meet us halfway,’ and are welcome to use the Omprakash Crowdfunding platform to help cover unmet costs.

The MUSC Office of Community Engagement is pleased to offer Student Educational or Training Opportunity Funding on a rolling basis for travel grants up to $2,500 each to MUSC students. The goal of the awards is to assist recipients in their educational endeavors relating to community engagement, social medicine, health equity, and social justice. Travel awards can be used to support conference attendance including registration/tuition, cost of posters or materials used for presentations, hotel, and travel.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Student Educational or Training Opportunity Funding applicants must:

  • Students must be enrolled actively in the MUSC College of Medicine and free of restrictions for travel or attendance/participation in optional non-curricular activities.
  • Preference is given to students applying for the first time, and those NOT receiving additional funds for coverage from another COM grant.

Benefits

  • travel grants up to $2,500 each to MUSC students

Top 9 Travel Grant providers for Artists

Application Process

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis but must be submitted at least 2 weeks PRIOR to the educational activity/conference/travel occurring for review and notice of approval. The Office of Community Engagement supports educational activities specifically focused on themes of social justice, health equity, social medicine and community engagement, therefore conferences, training activities, and poster/presentation submissions consistent with those areas of interest are more likely to be supported. For areas of interest outside of those specified, we encourage seeking other sources of funding support.

Important Notes

  • The award of a travel/educational support grant does not constitute approval of the proposed trip.
  • Before funding is released, awardees will need to comply with MUSC travel policies. If overseas travel is involved awardees will need to provide documentation of approval from the International Travel Oversight Committee (ITOC).
  • Request review and approval by initiating the process in the Student and Resident Travel Registry.

Award Information

  • Proposals must be for a future educational activity/conference/travel. Funding for retroactive activity and travel is not considered.
  • Preference is given to students applying for the first time, and those NOT receiving additional funds for coverage from another COM grant.
  • In fairness to other applicants, awards are limited to one per student per fiscal year.
  • The amount of awards is determined by the amount of funding available at the time the selection process occurs and based on the volume of strong applications.
  • Educational activities can be seminars, conferences, or formal training. Students are strongly encouraged to contact the Office of Community Engagement with questions about whether or not an activity qualifies if they are uncertain.
  • Applications received after the deadline (2 weeks prior to the event/training) will not be accepted.
  • Proposals are reviewed by the COM Associate Dean for Community Engagement and the Community Engagement Advisory Board.

Students must complete and submit the application form to the Office of Community Engagement. Forms should be completed online, printed then scanned as a pdf and sent to ramsetty@musc.edu.

Evaluation

Requests will be evaluated based on how closely the training/educational opportunity reflects the focus areas of the office of Community Engagement and the degree of involvement by the student applicant (presenting versus attending, active training versus observation etc).
