New Horizons Travel Fellowships

The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing offers travel fellowships to cover the cost of attending the annual New Horizons in Science briefings for journalists. The annual conference brings together top-rank scientists and leading science reporters for an in-depth look at seminal developments in science, medicine, and technology that are likely to make news in the coming months.

Eligibility

•  Reporters from smaller metropolitan print and broadcast news outlets, freelancers and webcasters with a demonstrated interest in science writing.

Benefits

• The maximum reimbursement of $1,200.
• Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in the day-long professional workshops sponsored by the National Association of Science Writers that immediately precede the briefing.

Applications for travel fellowships require:

1. A brief (no more than 500-word) expression of interest
2. A nominating letter from a senior editor, news director or producer
3. A resume (with home and office telephone numbers)
4. No more than 3 clips or broadcast transcripts (on any topic).
