The Harold Powers World Travel Fund honors the polymathic scholar and distinguished AMS member whose publications have ranged from music and language to medieval mode to Indian music to Puccini and whose interests were wider still, but always with the communicative aspects of music at their base.

Eligibility

  • The Harold Powers World Travel Fund award is to be given annually to one or more doctoral students at or Ph.D. graduates of North American universities to conduct doctoral or post-doctoral musicological research in all fields of musical scholarship and throughout the world. If they seek to conduct research for their dissertation, they must have completed all other requirements for the Ph.D. If they seek to conduct post-doctoral research, they should have completed the Ph.D. within the past five years. Preference will be given to applicants whose home institutions do not offer financial support for musicological research.



Benefits

  • The average award amount is typically between $500 to $5000.

Use of Funds. Please note the timeline for using awarded travel/research funds:

  • Funds awarded in 2023 must be applied to travel/research undertaken between 1 May 2023 and 30 April 2024.
  • Funds awarded in 2022 must be applied to travel/research undertaken between 1 May 2022 and 30 April 2024.
  • Funds awarded in 20192020, and 2021 must be applied to travel/research undertaken by 30 April 2023.

How to travel for free as a student

Application Process

The application and all materials must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET, 1 April 2023.

A 150-word summary of your proposal that briefly describes:

  •  the problem or question you are addressing in your research project
  •  the significance of the project
  •  what you expect to accomplish during the funding period.

Additional space is then provided for you to discuss these three aspects of the proposal at greater length (500-, 250-, and 200-word limit, respectively).

  • Describe the overall project that the present proposal supports, explaining the basic ideas, problems, or questions to be explored. (500-word limit)
  • Explain the significance of the overall project the present proposal supports and the anticipated contribution of the project to the existing body of research and writing on the topic or question. (250-word limit)
  • Provide the expected results of research done during the grant period, and plans for further research on the project. If the publication or another form of acceptance of the results of the proposed research has already been arranged, please provide this information (200-word limit)

A more detailed plan of work (500 words) that describes:

  •  preliminary work has already been completed
  • the present state of the proposed research
  • stages (if any) to be completed following the grant period.

  •  Institution(s) you intend to visit
  •  Itinerary
  • Budget (use this budget template)
  • If working with foreign language materials, your level of fluency

Specific to the Cohen/RIPM Fund application only:

  • How does your proposal advance the goals of RIPM?
  •  Which periodicals are essential to the realization of your project and why?

You are also asked to supply one letter of support to be submitted by a scholar familiar with your work. Please use the letter request tool within the application form to send a request to the scholar writing the letter. This will send them a form to complete to upload your letter. Even if you apply for more than one fund, you need only submit one letter.

Hurry Up!! The Center for Global Engagement announces funding for Global Catalyst Student Travel Grants to support students’ travel expenses.

The Center for Global Engagement announces funding for Global Catalyst Students Travel Grants. These funds will support both undergraduate and graduate students’ travel for the purpose of attending an internationally-based conference or workshop. These grants can also be used to support UT students’ international research. Students from either the University of Tennessee’s Knoxville campus or the Institute of Agriculture may apply.

Eligibility

  •  Awards will only be made to students enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, or UT Institute of Agriculture.
  • Travel must take place between December 1, 2021 – December 31, 2022.



Benefits

  • The maximum funding is $1500.
  • Applicants should demonstrate cost-share with at least one other unit providing financial support of the proposed project.
  • Only one award per person will be made.
  • Funds cannot be used to support programs offered through the Programs Abroad Office.
  • Funding will be awarded through Financial Aid.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted through a web form available here. Each proposal must include:

A brief project description (25 words or less

A project narrative of 1000 words or less, including

:)leA description of your plans addressing:

      • How this international travel fits into your curricular and professional goals; and
      • How your international will advance the global profile of the University of Tennessee/UT Institute of Agriculture
  • A timeline (no longer than 250 words): Provide a timeline that outlines the steps you will take to make your program a success.
  • An itemized budget. This budget must show how all requested money will be used. Budgets should indicate if other external funds have been secured and how those monies will be used, as well.
  • Endorsement letter(s). This letter should indicate the cost share from your department.
    1. All students must provide a letter of support from their faculty advisor.
    2. Students participating in a conference must provide documentation that their paper presentation has been accepted.
  • If you are attending a formal conference or workshop, include a program and/or further details about your participation.
  • A list of any funding received since 2016 through the Global Catalyst grant program or the Ready for the World grant program
  • A final report must be within two months of travel.

Hurry Up!! The ECCMID TAE Research Bites travel grant supports ESCMID Young Scientist members from LIMCs who wish to attend the 33rd ECCMID in Copenhagen and present abstracts at the TAE Research Bites session.

ESCMID Young Scientist members from LIMCs (35 years of age or younger), who wish to attend the 33rd ECCMID in Copenhagen and present abstracts at the TAE Research Bites session may apply for support. Abstracts are evaluated by TAE/SAS committee, and on this basis, up to two abstracts with the highest scores are offered free registration and EUR 500 travel allowance.

Eligibility

  • TAE Research Bites travel grants will be offered to the presenting authors of the Research Bites abstracts from LIMCs. The applicant must be the presenting author of a TAE Research Bites abstract submitted for the 33rd ECCMID, who holds ESCMID Young Scientist membership (35 years of age or younger).

  • Two TAE Research Bites travel grants include full registration to the Congress and a travel allowance amounting to EUR 500 (paid in cash onsite against the presentation of an identity card or passport).

  • Applications for TAE Research Bites travel grants are accepted from 17 October until 16 November 2022.
  • Application for a TAE Research Bites travel grant must be indicated during the Research Bites abstract submission process. The presenting author is the one who is eligible for the grant and needs to upload the PDF proof of residence in LMIC (enrolments in the study, rent or electricity bill, etc).
  • In the case of multiple travel grant applications being made for one presenting author, the highest-rated abstract will be the one that is counted.
  • Grant outcome notifications will be sent in early November of 2022.
  • Important: abstracts submitted but not accepted for the TAE Research Bites will be considered and reviewed with the ECCMID 2023 Regular abstracts. Authors applying for the TAE Research Bites are entitled to apply for the other ECCMID travel grants.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizens at the time of the national application deadline
  • A high school graduate, or has earned a GED
  • At least 18 years of age or older at the time of the national application deadline
  • Planning an overseas program in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
  • Planning to study in a country in which they are not a citizen
  • Matriculated for the duration of their Boren Awards-funded program in an undergraduate or graduate degree program located within the United States and accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • (For ROTC cadets and midshipmen and members of the military Reserves or National Guard) In inactive, non-drilling status for the duration of their Boren Awards-funded program
  • Boren Awards funding must cover a continuous period of overseas study. Short mid-program trips out of the country of study are allowed but must be pre-approved by IIE. ASOR is once again pleased to announce up to ten travel scholarships of $250 for students enrolled at an institution that is an institutional member of ASOR (see list of Institutional Members). Funding for these scholarships comes from the institutional membership fees. Applications must be submitted by email and are due by noon ET on August 22, 2022. In order to receive the funds, the institutional dues for the student’s school must be current for 2022-2023, and the student must stay at the ASOR hotel. Students need not present a paper in order to be eligible. Preference will be given to students from schools that did not receive an award recipient in the previous year. Recipients will be notified on or around September 6, 2022.

  • A brief (200 words) statement explaining why you want to attend the Annual Meeting and how the experience will help your career goals.
  • Information about the degree program in which you are presently enrolled
